गिरिराजस्य शिवनिमन्त्रणम् / The Mountain-King Invites Śiva
Hospitality to Śiva and the Devas
तत्र प्रभुम्प्रपूज्याथ चक्रे सम्प्रार्थनां मुदा । कियद्दिनानि सन्तिष्ठ मद्गेहे सकलैस्सह
tatra prabhumprapūjyātha cakre samprārthanāṃ mudā | kiyaddināni santiṣṭha madgehe sakalaissaha
Thereupon, having duly worshipped the Lord, he joyfully made a humble entreaty: “Stay for some days in my house, together with all (your companions).”
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages of Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Sthala Purana: A hospitality episode: Himālaya worships the Lord and petitions Him to stay—an archetype of atithi-satkāra offered to Śiva with His retinue, highlighting grace (anugraha) through divine presence in the devotee’s home.
Significance: Frames ‘gṛha-darśana’ as sacred: inviting Śiva to abide symbolizes making one’s life/home a temple through devotion and service.
Shakti Form: Umā
Role: nurturing
Offering: naivedya
The verse highlights bhakti expressed through pūjā and humble supplication—approaching Pati (Śiva) with reverence and heartfelt hospitality, a simple Shaiva Siddhānta model of grace arising through devotion and right conduct.
It reflects Saguna-upāsanā: after performing worship (as with a Śiva-liṅga or a consecrated form), the devotee seeks Śiva’s abiding presence—symbolically inviting the Lord to “remain” in one’s home/heart through continued devotion.
Perform Śiva-pūjā with sincerity and then practice atithi-sevā—serving Śiva’s devotees as Śiva himself—while maintaining japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) as an inner invitation for the Lord to abide within.
