Raising cries of victory, they performed the customary auspicious acts, such as untying the ceremonial knots and the like. Smiling, exchanging sidelong glances, and with their bodies thrilled in rapture, they rejoiced—signs of heartfelt devotion and sacred joy.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
It portrays the outward signs of inner bhakti—victory cries, auspicious rites, smiles, and gooseflesh—indicating that devotion to Śiva-Śakti naturally ripens into sacred joy and faith-filled celebration.
The verse emphasizes embodied, visible devotion—typical of Saguna worship—where reverence for Śiva’s manifest presence (often through the Liṅga and ritual observances) is expressed through auspicious acts and heartfelt emotional transformation.
It alludes to auspicious observances performed at sacred moments (e.g., ceremonial untying of knots) and encourages cultivating steady bhakti that can be supported by mantra-japa (such as the Pañcākṣarī) and attentive, reverent participation in Shaiva rites.
