Bowing to all the gods and to the other sages, he—filled with the joy of the great festival—honoured them all, and with gladness praised the propriety of his own rite and observance.
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Offering: pushpa
The verse highlights a Shaiva virtue central to upliftment: humility joined with correct observance (vidhi). By bowing to devas and sages and honoring them, the devotee purifies ego and makes worship fit to bear fruit—turning celebration into a dharmic offering aligned with Shiva’s order.
In saguna worship of Shiva—often expressed through Linga-pūjā—proper method (vidhi) and reverence toward Shiva’s divine attendants and enlightened seers are integral. Respecting devas and munis supports the harmony of the rite, reflecting that Shiva is pleased when worship is performed with humility and prescribed discipline.
The takeaway is to perform Shiva worship with vidhi and vinaya: begin with respectful salutations (praṇāma), offer due honors to teachers and holy persons, and maintain joyful steadiness. If one is practicing japa, keep the attitude of humility while repeating the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) according to one’s tradition.
