Himālaya too, approaching the Lord who had come with the hosts of gods, bowed down in due form; then, with devoted reverence according to proper rite, he performed the nīrājana (ārati) to Īśvara.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Type: stotra
Offering: dipa
It shows the ideal Shaiva attitude: even the महान (Himālaya) approaches Īśvara with humility, performs namaskāra, and worships with bhakti joined to vidhi—devotion disciplined by sacred order—affirming Śiva as the supreme Lord worthy of reverent service.
The verse emphasizes saguna-upāsanā—worship of the Lord as personally present and approachable. Nīrājana (ārati) is a classic upacāra of pūjā offered to Śiva (including in Liṅga worship), expressing loving service while recognizing Him as Īśvara beyond the devas.
It directly suggests performing pūjā with proper procedure (vidhivat) and offering nīrājana/ārati after pranāma; as a Shaiva takeaway, one may accompany the ārati with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) in a mood of steady bhakti.
