candanāgarukastūrīcārukuṃkuma bhūṣitam | ratnadarpaṇahastaṃ ca kajjalojjvalalocanam
Adorned with sandalpaste, agaru, musk, and beautiful vermilion, holding a jeweled mirror in the hand, with eyes made radiant by collyrium—thus was that auspicious form described.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahadeva
Type: stotra
Offering: dhupa
It highlights the auspiciousness (śubhatva) of divine form—outer adornment here signals inner purity and grace, guiding the devotee toward bhakti-filled contemplation and sacred darśana.
While the Liṅga points to the transcendent (nirguṇa) reality, this verse supports saguna-upāsanā—meditating on a gracious, describable form to steady devotion, which in Śaiva Siddhānta matures into realization of Pati (Śiva) beyond form.
Practice devotional visualization (dhyāna) during pūjā—after offering gandha (sandalpaste) and other fragrances, contemplate the radiant eyes and auspicious presence, and recite the Pañcākṣarī mantra: “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
