मेनायाः क्रोध-विलापः — Menā’s Lament and Reproach
to the Sage
ब्रह्मोवाच । अयं वै परमो लाभो दर्शनं शंकरस्य यत् । दानपात्रं स ते भूत्वागतस्तव च मंदिरम्
brahmovāca | ayaṃ vai paramo lābho darśanaṃ śaṃkarasya yat | dānapātraṃ sa te bhūtvāgatastava ca maṃdiram
Brahmā said: “Indeed, this is the highest gain—that one obtains the darśana of Śaṅkara. Becoming a worthy recipient of your charity, he has now come to your temple as well.”
Brahma
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
The verse declares Śiva-darśana as the “supreme gain,” implying that direct encounter with Śaṅkara (through temple presence and devotion) is spiritually superior to ordinary worldly attainments and becomes a doorway to Śiva’s grace.
By emphasizing darśana and the temple, the verse aligns with Saguna worship—approaching Śiva in a worshipable form (often the Liṅga) where the devotee receives sanctifying presence and grace through reverent visitation.
A practical takeaway is temple darśana with bhakti and purity of intention—approach Śiva’s shrine, offer respectful worship (e.g., pañcākṣarī japa like “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” if practiced), and cultivate worthiness through humility and right conduct.
