For good reason, Arundhatī then instructed Menā, awakening her understanding—using many kinds of statements and also various illustrative accounts from sacred history.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the Purāṇic account to the sages, describing Arundhatī’s counsel to Menā)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It highlights the Shaiva ideal that right understanding (bodha) is awakened through wise counsel grounded in dharma and supported by sacred exemplars (itihāsa), preparing the mind for devotion to Śiva and acceptance of His divine will.
Though the verse does not mention the Liṅga directly, it shows the narrative method by which elders guide householders toward reverence for Saguna Śiva—using reasoned instruction and sacred stories that cultivate faith (śraddhā), the basis for ritual worship.
The implied practice is śravaṇa and manana—listening to Shaiva sacred narratives and reflecting on them—often paired in the Shiva Purana tradition with japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) to stabilize understanding in devotion.
