हिमालयस्य निर्णयः — शिवाय पार्वत्याः प्रदाने
Himālaya’s Resolution to Give Pārvatī to Śiva
वसिष्ठो हि वदत्येवं किं मे कार्य्यं विचार्य्यते । यथा तथा च शंसध्वं निर्णीय मनसाखिलम्
vasiṣṭho hi vadatyevaṃ kiṃ me kāryyaṃ vicāryyate | yathā tathā ca śaṃsadhvaṃ nirṇīya manasākhilam
Thus Vasiṣṭha spoke: “Why should my duty be deliberated over? Decide everything fully in your minds, and then instruct me—whatever you deem proper.”
Vasiṣṭha
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It highlights dharmic humility: even a great sage like Vasiṣṭha submits his action to collective discernment, modeling surrender of ego and alignment of will—key to Shaiva devotion where the purified mind becomes fit for Shiva’s grace.
Linga-worship in the Shiva Purana is grounded in inner clarity and right intention; Vasiṣṭha’s request to decide ‘fully in the mind’ reflects the preparatory discipline (śuddhi and saṅkalpa) that makes Saguna Shiva worship fruitful and leads toward realization of Shiva as the supreme Pati.
The takeaway is saṅkalpa-śuddhi: decide the intention clearly before acting—then proceed with disciplined practice such as japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and a calm, resolved mind.
