O Mountain-born one, speech is of three kinds—whether in worldly usage or in the Vedic domain. The knower of the scriptures understands it all, seeing through the stainless eye of true knowledge.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Significance: Frames Śiva as bestower of pure knowledge (jñāna) that discriminates levels of speech and meaning—pilgrimage analogue is seeking jñāna-darśana through śravaṇa/manana.
Role: teaching
It teaches that speech has layered modes and meanings, and that only purified knowledge (jñāna) can discern them correctly—guiding the soul toward Shiva (Pati) rather than remaining bound in worldly confusion.
Linga and Saguna worship rely on mantra, praise, and Vedic utterance; this verse emphasizes that such speech bears fruit when understood and applied with a pure inner vision, not merely recited mechanically.
Practice disciplined, truthful, and mantra-centered speech—especially japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya)—so that speech becomes purified and aligned with knowledge rather than mere worldly talk.
