Permission for Girijā’s Austerities
विगृह्य मनसा सर्वाणींद्रियाणि सहाशु सा । समुपस्थानिके तत्र चकार परमं तपः
vigṛhya manasā sarvāṇīṃdriyāṇi sahāśu sā | samupasthānike tatra cakāra paramaṃ tapaḥ
With her mind firmly restraining all the senses, she quickly went to that sacred place of worship and there undertook the highest austerity—single-pointed in purpose, intent on attaining Lord Śiva.
Sūta Gosvāmin
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
It presents tapas as disciplined inner mastery—mind restraining the senses—so devotion becomes steady and fit for Śiva’s grace, the liberating power (Pati) in Śaiva Siddhānta.
By going to a dedicated place of worship and performing supreme tapas, Pārvatī models focused Saguna-upāsanā—approaching Śiva through concrete worship and disciplined practice that purifies the seeker for divine revelation.
Pratyāhāra-like sense-withdrawal and steady japa/meditation; in Śaiva practice this is commonly supported by Panchākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with simple vrata-style austerity and purity of conduct.
