कामप्रहारः — The Subduing of Kāma (Desire) / Kāma’s Assault and Its Futility
प्रद्युम्ननाम तस्यैव भविष्यति न संशयः । जातमात्रं तु तं पुत्रं शंबरस्संहरिष्यति
pradyumnanāma tasyaiva bhaviṣyati na saṃśayaḥ | jātamātraṃ tu taṃ putraṃ śaṃbarassaṃhariṣyati
His very name will be Pradyumna—of this there is no doubt. Yet, as soon as that son is born, Śambara will seize him away and make him disappear.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pashu
The verse highlights that divine destiny unfolds with certainty (“no doubt”), yet it may pass through trials; adversity does not negate dharma but becomes part of the karmic and cosmic unfolding under the higher order upheld by Śiva.
Though the verse is narrative, it reflects Saguna Śiva’s governance of the world-order: devotees take refuge in the Lord’s protective lordship (pālana) amid threats, trusting that the Supreme regulates even hostile forces.
In times of fear and uncertainty, steady japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with devotion is the practical takeaway, cultivating inner protection and surrender to Śiva’s will.
