चाण्डालीसद्गतिवर्णनम् (Cāṇḍālī-sadgati-varṇanam) — “Account of the Cāṇḍālī’s Attainment of a Good Destiny”
एवं शिवचतुर्दश्या व्रतं जातं च निर्मलम् । अज्ञानतो जागरणं परमानन्ददायकम्
evaṃ śivacaturdaśyā vrataṃ jātaṃ ca nirmalam | ajñānato jāgaraṇaṃ paramānandadāyakam
Thus the vow of Śiva-caturdaśī becomes pure and sanctifying; even a vigil (jāgaraṇa) kept unknowingly, by the grace of Lord Śiva, becomes a giver of supreme bliss.

It teaches that Śiva-caturdaśī observance is intrinsically purifying, and that even an unintentional vigil can yield spiritual merit—pointing to Śiva’s compassion and the power of holy time (tithi) when aligned with devotion.
Śiva-caturdaśī is traditionally celebrated with Liṅga-pūjā, abhiṣeka, and remembrance of Saguna Śiva; the verse affirms that the vrata and night vigil supporting this worship become ‘nirmala’ and bear the fruit of joy and grace.
Keeping jāgaraṇa on Mahāśivarātri—ideally with mantra-japa (e.g., Om Namaḥ Śivāya), meditation on the Liṅga, and simple pūjā—since even imperfect or inadvertent wakefulness is praised as spiritually fruitful.
