Mukti-bheda-nirūpaṇa (Classification of Liberation) and Śiva as the Sole Bestower of Mokṣa
विहिताविहिताभेदात्तामनेकां विदुर्बुधाः । तयोर्बहुविधत्वाच्च विस्तारो न हि वर्ण्यते
vihitāvihitābhedāttāmanekāṃ vidurbudhāḥ | tayorbahuvidhatvācca vistāro na hi varṇyate

It teaches discernment in Shaiva life: practices are understood as scripturally enjoined (vihita) or not enjoined (avihita), and the seeker should prioritize what aligns with dharma and Shiva’s revealed path rather than chasing countless optional variations.
Linga-worship in the Shiva Purana is meant to be grounded in vihita observances—proper mantra, purity, devotion, and prescribed offerings—while avoiding avihita innovations that may be driven by ego or superstition rather than devotion to Saguna Shiva.
Follow prescribed Shaiva disciplines: steady japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and orthodox Shiva-puja with approved items such as bhasma (Tripuṇḍra) and Rudraksha, rather than unprescribed or harmful practices.
