Niṣādasya Bhillasya Itihāsaḥ — Śivarātri-vrata-prabhāvaḥ
The Hunter’s Account and the Efficacy of the Śivarātri Observance
शिव उवाच । इत्युक्ते च तदा तेन प्रसन्नश्शंकरस्तदा । पूजितं च स्वरूपं हि दर्शयामास संमतम्
śiva uvāca | ityukte ca tadā tena prasannaśśaṃkarastadā | pūjitaṃ ca svarūpaṃ hi darśayāmāsa saṃmatam
Śiva said: When he had spoken thus, Śaṅkara was pleased. Then, being duly worshipped, the Lord revealed His own gracious and approved form.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It highlights Śiva’s anugraha (grace): when devotion is expressed through sincere words and worship, the Lord becomes pleased and grants direct spiritual confirmation by revealing His presence and form.
The verse implies that proper pūjā leads to darśana—Shiva, though ultimately beyond attributes, compassionately becomes accessible in a worship-worthy (saguṇa) manner, affirming the devotee’s practice.
Perform Śiva-pūjā with humility and steadiness—especially japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and reverent offerings—seeking inner darśana (direct experience) as the fruit of devotion.
