Śivapūjā-stuti: Deva-Ṛṣi-Paramparāyāṃ Śaṃkara-caritasya Prastāvaḥ
Prelude to Śaṃkara’s narrative and the lineage of Śiva-worship
रमया सहितो विष्णुश्शिवपूजां चकार ह । कृपया परमेशस्य सर्वान्कामानवाप हि
ramayā sahito viṣṇuśśivapūjāṃ cakāra ha | kṛpayā parameśasya sarvānkāmānavāpa hi
Accompanied by Ramā (Lakṣmī), Viṣṇu performed the worship of Śiva; and by the grace of Parameśvara, he indeed attained all desired aims.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Models the paradigm that even Viṣṇu attains siddhi through Śiva-pūjā; for pilgrims, it validates Śiva-upāsanā as sarva-kāma-pradā and grace-dependent rather than merely merit-dependent.
Shakti Form: Lalitā
Role: nurturing
Offering: pushpa
It teaches that even Viṣṇu attains success through Śiva-bhakti: the decisive cause is Parameśvara’s grace, showing Śiva as the supreme giver of fruition (anugraha) in a Shaiva Siddhanta sense.
The verse highlights śivapūjā as a concrete, saguna form of devotion—classically expressed through Liṅga worship—through which the Lord’s compassion becomes accessible and grants both worldly aims and higher spiritual good.
Perform Śiva-pūjā with devotion—offering water, bilva leaves, and mantra-japa (especially the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”); such worship is presented as a direct means to invite Śiva’s grace.
