Viṣṇoḥ Sahasranāma-stotreṇa Śiva-prasādaḥ
Vishnu’s Thousand-Name Hymn and Shiva’s Grace
यद्रूपं भवता दृष्टं सर्वलोकसुखावहम् । हिताय तव देवेश धृतं भावय तद्ध्रुवम्
yadrūpaṃ bhavatā dṛṣṭaṃ sarvalokasukhāvaham | hitāya tava deveśa dhṛtaṃ bhāvaya taddhruvam
That form which you have beheld—bestowing happiness upon all the worlds—has been assumed by the Lord of gods for your welfare. Therefore, contemplate that very form with steady certainty.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Kotirudra Samhita account to the sages of Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
The verse emphasizes that Shiva’s revealed form is not merely a vision but an act of grace meant for the devotee’s upliftment; steady contemplation of that benevolent form purifies bondage (pāśa) and turns the mind toward Pati (Shiva), the liberating Lord.
It supports Saguna-upāsanā: meditating on the specific, compassion-bearing form Shiva assumes for the devotee. In Jyotirlinga contexts, the Linga is the stable focus through which the devotee ‘holds’ the divine presence and repeatedly contemplates Shiva’s grace-bestowing manifestation.
A clear takeaway is dhyāna (steady contemplation) on Shiva’s auspicious form—ideally alongside japa of the Panchākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple Shaiva observances like applying Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and maintaining a focused, unwavering mind.
