The Greatness of the Ghuśmeśa Jyotirlinga
तया च मनसा धृत्वा पुत्रश्चैव भवेन्मम । तदा च स्वामिना यच्च धृतं पुष्पं समेतु माम्
tayā ca manasā dhṛtvā putraścaiva bhavenmama | tadā ca svāminā yacca dhṛtaṃ puṣpaṃ sametu mām
Holding me within her mind, may I indeed become her son. And may that very flower which the Lord—her husband—then held in his hand come to me.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Kotirudra Saṃhitā account to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Role: creative
Offering: pushpa
The verse highlights saṅkalpa (inner resolve) and mānasa-bhāva (mental fixation in devotion): when the heart holds the divine intention, Shiva’s grace can shape destiny—here expressed as the wish to be born as a son through divine arrangement.
It reflects Saguna-bhakti expressed through a concrete offering (a flower) while affirming that the inner act—holding the Lord in the mind—is central. In Linga worship, external puja becomes fruitful when joined with inward remembrance and surrender to Shiva as Pati (the Lord).
Practice mānasa-pūjā alongside simple flower-offering: mentally fix Shiva in the heart, make a clear saṅkalpa, and offer a flower (and, if customary, japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with single-pointed devotion.
