The Greatness of the Ghuśmeśa Jyotirlinga
सर्वं स्वार्थपरं देवि त्रिलोक्यां नात्र संशयः । जानीहि त्वं विशेषेण बुद्ध्या शोकं न वै कुरु
sarvaṃ svārthaparaṃ devi trilokyāṃ nātra saṃśayaḥ | jānīhi tvaṃ viśeṣeṇa buddhyā śokaṃ na vai kuru
O Goddess, in the three worlds everyone is intent on their own advantage—of this there is no doubt. Know this clearly with discerning understanding, and do not give way to grief.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
It teaches viveka (discernment): worldly beings often act from self-interest, so the seeker should rely on steady buddhi and turn toward Shiva as Pati (the Lord) rather than sink into shoka (grief).
By exposing the unreliability of worldly supports, the verse directs the mind to Saguna Shiva—worshipped as the Linga—whose grace is stable; devotion to the Linga becomes a refuge that transforms sorrow into clarity and surrender.
Practice japa of the Panchakshara “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” with a calm, discerning mind; optionally wear Rudraksha and apply Tripundra (bhasma) as reminders of vairagya and Shiva-centered awareness.
