Anasūyā–Atri Tapas-Varṇana
Description of Anasūyā and Atri’s Austerities
आर्द्रीभावो न लभ्येत खरा वाता दिशो दश । हाहाकारो महानासीत्पृथिव्यां दुःखदोऽति हि
ārdrībhāvo na labhyeta kharā vātā diśo daśa | hāhākāro mahānāsītpṛthivyāṃ duḥkhado'ti hi
No moisture could be found anywhere; harsh winds blew from all ten directions. A great cry of distress arose upon the earth, exceedingly painful to all beings.

Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Rudra
Cosmic Event: saṃvarta-like drought and distress; world-conditions resembling pralaya
It portrays a world cut off from life-sustaining balance—an outer sign of inner disorder—implying that refuge in Pati (Lord Shiva) restores harmony and alleviates collective suffering.
In the Kotirudrasaṃhitā context, such calamity sets the stage for turning toward Shiva’s Saguna grace through Jyotirlinga devotion, where the Linga is approached as the compassionate, stabilizing presence of Pati in the world.
A practical takeaway is to intensify Shiva-upāsanā—Pañcākṣarī japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), Linga-abhisheka with water when available, and wearing Rudrākṣa with Tripuṇḍra as a vow of steadiness amid distress.
