गौतमविघ्नप्रकरणम्
Episode of Obstacles to Gautama; Gaṇeśa’s Appearing Through Misguided Worship
तस्माद्गच्छान्यतस्त्वं च परिवारसमन्वितः । विलम्बं कुरु नैव त्वं धेनुहन्पापकारक
tasmādgacchānyatastvaṃ ca parivārasamanvitaḥ | vilambaṃ kuru naiva tvaṃ dhenuhanpāpakāraka
Therefore, depart from here at once to some other place, along with your attendants. Do not delay—O slayer of a cow, you who bring about sin.
A Shaiva authority/holy person addressing the offender (as narrated by Suta Goswami)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Bhairava
Shakti Form: Durgā
Role: protective
The verse stresses dharmic accountability: grave sin (especially go-hatya) creates strong pāpa that obstructs auspiciousness and the fruit of Shaiva pilgrimage; immediate withdrawal and correction is urged so that purity and Shiva-bhakti may be restored.
Kotirudrasaṃhitā commonly frames Jyotirlinga worship as highly purifying, yet it also upholds that the worshipper must approach Saguna Shiva (the Linga) with basic dharmic fitness—avoiding or repenting major sins—so the sanctity of the tirtha and worship is not violated.
The direct takeaway is urgency in prāyaścitta (atonement) and purification before sacred worship—such as confession, repentance, charity, and then resuming Shiva-upāsanā (japa of the Pañcākṣarī ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’, wearing rudrākṣa, and applying tripuṇḍra) with a purified intention.
