Episode of Obstacles to Gautama; Gaṇeśa’s Appearing Through Misguided Worship
दुर्बुद्धयश्च तच्छिष्यास्सुतास्तेषां तथैव च । गौतम परिभर्त्स्यैव प्रत्यूचुर्धिग्वचो मुहुः
durbuddhayaśca tacchiṣyāssutāsteṣāṃ tathaiva ca | gautama paribhartsyaiva pratyūcurdhigvaco muhuḥ
Those ill-minded men—along with their disciples and likewise their sons—reviled Gautama and repeatedly retorted with contemptuous words.

It warns that contempt and slander toward a rishi (and by extension Shiva’s devotees) is a grave aparadha that obscures sattva and invites karmic downfall; humility and reverence are upheld as essential dharma.
Kotirudra Samhita links sacred places and Shiva-worship with inner purity; insulting holy persons contradicts true bhakti to Saguna Shiva, because devotion must be accompanied by right conduct and respect for the dharmic order.
Practice speech-discipline (mauna/mitabhasha), do japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) for purification, and perform repentance through Shiva-oriented prayer and self-restraint to avoid ninda and harsh speech.
