Kāmarūpeśvara’s Trial and Śiva’s Hidden Protection (कামरूपेश्वर-रक्षा-प्रसङ्गः)
ततश्शिवगणानां च राक्षसानां परस्परम् । युद्धमासीत्तदा घोरं पश्यतां दुःखकावहम्
tataśśivagaṇānāṃ ca rākṣasānāṃ parasparam | yuddhamāsīttadā ghoraṃ paśyatāṃ duḥkhakāvaham
Then, between Śiva’s gaṇas and the rākṣasas, a fierce battle arose with one another—terrible to behold, and a source of grief for all who watched.

The verse highlights the painful fallout of conflict in the realm of names and forms: even when Śiva’s gaṇas uphold dharma, violent confrontation generates sorrow for onlookers, reminding the seeker to turn inward toward Śiva (Pati) as the refuge beyond agitation and grief.
The gaṇas represent Śiva’s saguna retinue active in the cosmos, while the devotee is encouraged to seek stability in Śiva’s presence through Linga-worship—anchoring the mind in the Lord who transcends turmoil, even as His divine order operates in the world.
As a practical takeaway, one may steady the mind with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and, where appropriate, wear rudrākṣa and apply tripuṇḍra-bhasma as reminders to remain anchored in Śiva while witnessing worldly strife.
