Bhaimaśaṅkara-māhātmya: Śiva’s Descent in Kāmarūpa and the Rise of Bhīma
सुदक्षिण महाराज काम रूपेश्वर प्रभो । मद्भक्तस्त्वं विशेषेण कुरु मद्भजनं रतेः
sudakṣiṇa mahārāja kāma rūpeśvara prabho | madbhaktastvaṃ viśeṣeṇa kuru madbhajanaṃ rateḥ
O King Sudakṣiṇa, O Lord Kāmarūpeśvara! You are especially My devotee—therefore, with loving delight, engage in My worship with exclusive devotion.
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Sthala Purana: Śiva directly addresses King Sudakṣiṇa of Kāmarūpa, affirming him as a special devotee and prescribing exclusive bhajana; the king becomes the paradigmatic paśu turning toward Pati through bhakti and worship.
Significance: Establishes the bhakti-adhikāra of a householder-king: exclusive devotion (ananya-bhakti) to Śiva is presented as the swift means to protection and success.
Role: teaching
Offering: pushpa
Shiva affirms the devotee’s special bond and teaches that moksha-oriented devotion is strengthened by single-minded bhajana—loving, continuous worship of the Lord as Pati (the liberating Master) who removes bondage (pāśa).
By addressing Kāmarūpeśvara, Shiva points to His accessible Saguna presence in the linga at a sacred kshetra; the verse endorses approaching Shiva through concrete worship—darśana, abhisheka, and praise—while holding the inner intent of surrender.
Practice steady bhajana: daily linga-pūjā/abhisheka, japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and devotion expressed through hymns—performed with love and exclusivity of focus.
