At his very approach, the kings were filled with reverent awe. Rising up to receive him, they bowed in salutation—embodiments of humility made gentle by devotion.

The verse teaches that true greatness is recognized through bhakti and vinaya (humility): even powerful kings become inwardly softened and rise to honor the sacred presence, reflecting Shaiva Siddhanta’s emphasis on devotion as a purifier of ego (āṇava).
In Kotirudra narratives centered on Jyotirlinga pilgrimage, reverence shown to Shiva’s presence is expressed through respectful reception, prostration, and devotion—outer acts that support inner surrender to Saguna Shiva and prepare the mind for Linga-darśana.
Practice respectful upacāra: stand up to receive holy persons and sacred symbols, offer namaskāra, and cultivate bhakti-namratā (devotional humility) while mentally repeating the Panchākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
