Mahākāla Jyotirliṅga Māhātmya: The Episode of King Candrasena and the Cintāmaṇi
श्रुत्वा पुत्रमुखात्सर्वं प्रसादं गिरिजापतेः । प्रभुं विज्ञापयामास यो भजत्यनिशं शिवम्
śrutvā putramukhātsarvaṃ prasādaṃ girijāpateḥ | prabhuṃ vijñāpayāmāsa yo bhajatyaniśaṃ śivam
Having heard from his son’s mouth the full account of the gracious favor of Girijā’s Lord (Śiva), he then informed the sovereign Lord—affirming that one who worships Śiva unceasingly attains His grace.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Sthala Purana: The verse states the doctrinal principle of prasāda: continuous bhajana of Śiva yields His grace; it functions as a generalized sthala-purāṇa-like teaching rather than a site-specific origin.
Significance: Affirms that steady devotion (aniśa-bhajana) is itself a ‘tīrtha’ leading to Śiva’s prasāda.
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
The verse highlights prasāda (Śiva’s grace) as the fruit of aniśa-bhakti—steady, uninterrupted worship—showing that liberation-oriented spiritual progress in Shaiva thought depends on the Lord’s compassionate favor responding to sincere devotion.
By naming Śiva as Girijāpati, the verse points to Saguna Shiva—Śiva with attributes—who is approached through devotion and worship (including Liṅga-pūjā). Continuous bhajana keeps the devotee aligned with Śiva’s presence, making the heart fit to receive His grace.
The key practice is continuous remembrance and worship: daily Liṅga-pūjā with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), supported by simple disciplines like applying tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and wearing rudrākṣa to sustain aniśa (unbroken) devotion.
