ज्योतिर्लिङ्गमाहात्म्य-प्रस्तावना तथा सोमनाथ-प्रसङ्गः

She said, “Whose child is this, conceived again—does it belong to Soma?” Thereafter she was taken by him, even though I had tried to restrain it.
Suta Goswami (narrating the episode within the Kotirudra Samhita)

Shiva Form: Mahadeva
The verse highlights the Shaiva ethical lens: confusion born of desire and social disorder is resolved only through dharma (right conduct) and restraint. In Shaiva Siddhanta, such narratives underscore that purification of conduct supports devotion to Pati (Shiva) and steadiness on the path to liberation.
Though the verse itself is narrative, it frames the need for inner discipline—an essential prerequisite for fruitful Saguna Shiva worship (Linga-puja). Devotion in the Shiva Purana is repeatedly shown to be effective when accompanied by self-control, truthfulness, and adherence to dharma.
The practical takeaway is sense-restraint and vow-based discipline (vrata). A simple Shaiva practice aligned with this theme is daily japa of the Panchakshara mantra ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with a resolve for purity of conduct, optionally supported by Tripundra (bhasma) and Rudraksha as reminders of restraint.
