O twice-born sages, I have here declared the Jyotirliṅgas and the subsidiary liṅgas. By their very darśana—sacred sight and audience—they remove sins and bestow the fulfillment of all rightful desires.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: Sūta summarizes the teaching: Jyotirliṅgas (principal luminous manifestations) and upaliṅgas (subsidiary shrines) have been enumerated; their darśana itself is efficacious.
Significance: Darśana is framed as pāpa-haraṇa (removal of karmic demerit) and sarva-kāma-pradāna (granting of legitimate aims), aligning tīrtha-yātrā with Śiva’s anugraha.
Role: liberating
The verse proclaims the grace-power (anugraha) of Śiva manifest as Jyotirliṅga: even sincere darśan of these sacred forms purifies pāpa and supports the devotee’s dhārmic aims, leading the mind toward Śiva-bhakti and liberation.
It affirms Saguna worship through the Liṅga as a compassionate, accessible form of Pati (Śiva). The Liṅga is not merely a symbol but a sanctified locus of Śiva’s presence where darśan and reverence yield purification and blessings.
Undertake Jyotirliṅga darśan with devotion—offer water, bilva leaves, and repeat the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” maintaining purity of conduct; the core takeaway is faithful darśan coupled with japa and simple Liṅga-pūjā.
