ज्योतिर्लिङ्ग-तदुपलिङ्ग-माहात्म्यवर्णनम्
Narration of the Greatness of the Jyotirliṅga and Associated Liṅgas
एतानि सुप्रधानानि मुख्यतां हि गतानि च । अन्यानि चापि मुख्यानि श्रूयतामृषिसत्तमा
etāni supradhānāni mukhyatāṃ hi gatāni ca | anyāni cāpi mukhyāni śrūyatāmṛṣisattamā
These have been declared the most eminent and have indeed attained the status of the principal ones. Yet there are other principal matters as well—listen to them, O best of sages.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Sthala Purana: A transitional verse: having established certain liṅgas as ‘principal’, Sūta signals further ‘principal’ teachings to follow—an ordering of revelation and emphasis.
Significance: Frames hierarchy among sacred topics/sites; encourages attentive śravaṇa as a parallel sādhana to tīrtha-darśana.
It signals a transition: after stating certain teachings as “primary,” the narrator affirms that more essential Shaiva instructions remain, encouraging attentive listening as a discipline of śraddhā (reverent receptivity) on the path to Shiva’s grace.
In the Kotirudra context, the “principal” topics commonly include Linga-centered devotion and the glory of Jyotirlingas; the verse prepares the listener for further key teachings that support Saguna Shiva worship as a direct means to approach the Supreme (Pati).
The immediate practice implied is śravaṇa (devotional listening) to Shaiva scripture—an essential limb of bhakti that typically culminates in Linga-pūjā, mantra-japa (such as the Panchakshara), and pilgrimage-oriented reverence for Jyotirlinga tīrthas in this Samhita.
