ज्योतिर्लिङ्ग-तदुपलिङ्ग-माहात्म्यवर्णनम्
Narration of the Greatness of the Jyotirliṅga and Associated Liṅgas
ये निष्कामतया तानि पठिष्यन्ति शुभाशयाः । तेषां च जननीगर्भे वासो नैव भविष्यति
ye niṣkāmatayā tāni paṭhiṣyanti śubhāśayāḥ | teṣāṃ ca jananīgarbhe vāso naiva bhaviṣyati
Those of auspicious intent who recite those sacred teachings with desirelessness—free from worldly motives—shall not have to dwell again in a mother’s womb.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: The phalaśruti culminates: niṣkāma recitation (without worldly desire) leads to freedom from rebirth—no return to the mother’s womb—interpretable as Śiva’s liberating grace removing pāśa and ripening the paśu toward mokṣa.
Significance: Frames the highest pilgrimage as inner: desireless remembrance yields saṃsāra-cessation; aligns bhakti with vairāgya and jñāna.
Mantra: ye niṣkāmatayā tāni paṭhiṣyanti śubhāśayāḥ | teṣāṃ ca jananīgarbhe vāso naiva bhaviṣyati
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It teaches that desireless engagement with Shiva-centered scripture (niṣkāma pāṭha) purifies the soul and leads toward moksha—freedom from repeated birth—by dissolving binding karmic motives.
In the Kotirudra context (Jyotirlinga glory), it supports Saguna Shiva devotion: approaching Shiva’s sacred forms and narratives with pure intent, not for worldly gain, is said to culminate in liberation rather than mere merit.
Practice niṣkāma recitation—daily reading/chanting of Shiva Purana passages or Shiva stotras with a steady mind, ideally alongside japa of the Panchakshara mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), offered without desire for rewards.
