ज्योतिर्लिङ्ग-तदुपलिङ्ग-माहात्म्यवर्णनम्
Narration of the Greatness of the Jyotirliṅga and Associated Liṅgas
यं यं काममपेक्ष्यैव पठिष्यन्ति नरोत्तमाः । प्राप्स्यंति कामं तं तं हि परत्रेव मुनीश्वराः
yaṃ yaṃ kāmamapekṣyaiva paṭhiṣyanti narottamāḥ | prāpsyaṃti kāmaṃ taṃ taṃ hi paratreva munīśvarāḥ
O best of sages, whatever desire noble people keep in view and recite this sacred account for, that very desire they surely attain—indeed, even in the hereafter.

It teaches that devotionally reciting Shiva’s sacred narrative bears definite fruit: intended aims are fulfilled, and the merit carries beyond this life, aligning desire with dharma and ultimately supporting the soul’s progress toward Shiva’s grace.
The verse functions as a phala-śruti for Shiva-centered recitation: by approaching Saguna Shiva through his līlā, names, and Jyotirlinga glories, the devotee gains both worldly supports and otherworldly merit, which in Shaiva Siddhanta culminates in ripening for Shiva’s anugraha (grace).
Recite or hear the Kotirudra Samhita with a clear saṅkalpa (intention), ideally alongside Shiva-nāma japa such as the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” and offer simple devotion (water, bilva leaves) to a Shiva Linga or Jyotirlinga shrine.
