Methodical Explanation of the Meaning of Praṇava/Om
शिव एवाहमस्मीति तदैक्यमनुभूय च । सर्वावरणदेवांश्च पुनरुद्वासयेद्धृदि
śiva evāhamasmīti tadaikyamanubhūya ca | sarvāvaraṇadevāṃśca punarudvāsayeddhṛdi
Realizing the oneness expressed as, “Śiva alone am I,” and directly experiencing that unity, one should then again install within the heart all the deities of the sacred enclosure (āvaraṇa) of worship.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Kailasha Samhita teaching to the sages, presenting a Shaiva yogic-ritual instruction)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Mantra: शिव एवाहमस्मीति
It presents the climax of Shaiva contemplation: the yogin realizes unity with Shiva (“Śiva alone am I”), then integrates that realization back into devotional order by re-establishing the āvaraṇa-deities within the heart—showing that liberation and reverent worship are complementary.
After the inward experience of Shiva as the supreme reality, the practitioner does not abandon Saguna practice; instead, the worship-structure (āvaraṇa) is internalized. This aligns linga-upāsanā with inner nyāsa: the deity-circles are seated in the heart as a living, subtle temple.
A dhyāna-nyāsa sequence: meditate until the sense of Shiva-identity arises, then perform inner “installation” (udvāsana/āvāhana in the heart) of the āvaraṇa-devatās—often supported by japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and disciplined inner worship.
