Then, rising again slowly and gazing with love upon one’s own Guru, one should stand near the Guru’s feet with palms joined in reverent salutation.

Role: nurturing
It teaches the Shaiva discipline of humility and loving reverence toward the Guru—approaching slowly, with steady mind and devotion—because the Guru is the doorway through which Shiva’s grace and liberating knowledge are received.
In Shaiva practice, correct approach (ācāra) precedes ritual: honoring the Guru with añjali near the feet prepares the devotee for Linga worship, where Saguna Shiva is approached with the same bhakti, restraint, and surrender.
It suggests a simple but central upacāra: stand near the Guru with folded hands (añjali), cultivate premabhāva (devotional feeling), and then receive instruction—often leading into mantra-japa such as the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) as guided by the Guru.
