The Determination of Śiva as the Meaning of Praṇava
विधानेन करिष्यामि युष्मदाज्ञापुरस्सरम् । एवं विधाय संकल्पं दर्भानुत्तरतस्त्यजेत्
vidhānena kariṣyāmi yuṣmadājñāpurassaram | evaṃ vidhāya saṃkalpaṃ darbhānuttaratastyajet
“I shall perform it according to the prescribed rite, placing your command foremost.” Having thus formed the saṅkalpa, one should then cast the kuśa-grass (darbha) to the north.
Suta Goswami (narrating ritual procedure as taught in the Kailasa Samhita)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Mantra: vidhānena kariṣyāmi yuṣmadājñāpurassaram
It emphasizes that worship becomes fruitful when performed with śāstric order (vidhi) and a clear saṅkalpa—an inward alignment of intention to the path of Pati (Śiva), not mere outer action.
Linga-worship in the Shiva Purana is repeatedly framed as vidhi-yukta (rule-guided) devotion: honoring the guru/elders’ instruction and setting saṅkalpa stabilizes the mind so that Saguna worship leads toward realization of Śiva as the supreme Pati.
It points to performing saṅkalpa before pūjā and using darbha/kuśa in the rite (casting/placing it northward as indicated), reinforcing attention, purity, and directional discipline during worship.
