Vāmadeva-mata: Rahasya-upadeśa
The Esoteric Teaching of Vāmadeva’s Doctrine
समष्टिव्यष्टिभावेन प्रणवार्थः श्रुतो मया । न जातुचिन्महासेन संप्राप्तस्त्वादृशो गुरुः
samaṣṭivyaṣṭibhāvena praṇavārthaḥ śruto mayā | na jātucinmahāsena saṃprāptastvādṛśo guruḥ
From you I have heard the meaning of the Praṇava (Oṁ) in both its universal and its individual aspects. O Mahāsena, never before have I obtained a Guru like you.
A disciple/devotee addressing Mahāsena (Skanda/Kartikeya) as Guru within the Kailāsa-saṃhitā discourse
Tattva Level: pashu
Mantra: oṃ (praṇava)
Type: gayatri
Role: teaching
It emphasizes that true realization of Praṇava (Oṁ)—as both the cosmic whole (samaṣṭi) and the individual soul’s inward experience (vyaṣṭi)—is received through authentic Guru-upadeśa, and that gratitude to the Guru is itself a vital limb of Shaiva sādhanā.
Praṇava is treated as the seed-sound pointing to Pati (Śiva) who is both manifest (saguṇa—approached through Liṅga worship, mantra, and ritual) and transcendent (nirguṇa—realized inwardly). The samaṣṭi/vyaṣṭi framing links outer worship to inner realization.
Receive Praṇava and Shaiva mantra instruction from a qualified Guru, then practice japa and dhyāna on Oṁ—contemplating its universal and individual meanings—along with standard Shaiva observances such as bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and devotion-centered discipline.
