Vāmadeva-mata: Rahasya-upadeśa
The Esoteric Teaching of Vāmadeva’s Doctrine
देवसेनापते तुभ्यन्देवानाम्पतये नमः । नमो यतीनाम्पतये परिपूर्णाय ते नमः
devasenāpate tubhyandevānāmpataye namaḥ | namo yatīnāmpataye paripūrṇāya te namaḥ
Salutations to You, O Lord and commander of the divine hosts; salutations to the Sovereign of the gods. Salutations to You, the Lord of ascetics; salutations to You, the All-Complete (Pūrṇa) Supreme Master.
Suta Goswami (narrating the hymn contextually within Kailasa Samhita teachings)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Mantra: देवसेनापते तुभ्यं देवानां पतये नमः । नमो यतीनां पतये परिपूर्णाय ते नमः
Type: stotra
Role: nurturing
Offering: pushpa
The verse affirms Shiva as Pati—the supreme Lord who governs even the devas and is also the inner ruler of renunciants—pointing to Him as the complete, liberating reality (Paripūrṇa) sought in Shaiva Siddhanta.
By offering repeated namaskāra to Shiva as Lord of gods and yogis, the verse supports Saguna worship—approaching the transcendent Pati through a venerable form such as the Shiva Linga, where devotion matures into realization of His completeness.
Recite the verse as a short stotra before Linga-pūjā, ideally alongside the Panchākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), with a mental focus on Shiva as the all-complete Lord who cuts the bonds (pāśa) of the soul.
