This brief Vasiṣṭha hymn is a compact Agni-invocation for the sacrifice: the poets kindle Jātavedas with samidh (fuel), praise, and oblations, asking him to accept the vaṣaṭ-call and bring the gods. It emphasizes the sacrificer’s identity as a reverent giver (dāśat) and closes with a request for lasting svasti (well-being/protection) through Agni’s mediation.

Mantra 1
समिधा जातवेदसे देवाय देवहूतिभिः । हविर्भिः शुक्रशोचिषे नमस्विनो वयं दाशेमाग्नये ॥
With the kindling of our being we serve Jātavedas, the divine, by the calls that summon the gods; with our offerings we give to the bright-flaming one. We, full of reverence, would make our giving to Agni.

वयं ते अग्ने समिधा विधेम वयं दाशेम सुष्टुती यजत्र । वयं घृतेनाध्वरस्य होतर्वयं देव हविषा भद्रशोचे ॥
We would kindle thee, O Agni; we would serve thee with right praise, O adorable. We would, O Hotar of the journeying sacrifice, pour the clarified light (ghṛta) for thee; we would offer to thee, O god, with the oblation—O thou of auspicious flame.
Mantra 3
आ नो देवेभिरुप देवहूतिमग्ने याहि वषट्कृतिं जुषाणः । तुभ्यं देवाय दाशतः स्याम यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
Come to us with the gods to our god-summoning call, O Agni; taking delight in the cry that seals the offering (vaṣaṭ). May we be givers to thee, the divine; and may you guard us always with states of well-being.
