युद्धे अङ्गद-मैन्द-द्विविद-राक्षसयुद्धम्; कुम्भस्य प्रादुर्भावः तथा सुग्रीवेण पराभवः (Sarga 76: Angada and the Vanara chiefs battle Kampana, Prajaṅgha, Yūpākṣa, Śoṇitākṣa; Kumbha enters and is checked by Sugrīva)
द्विविदश्शोणिताक्षंतुविददारनखैर्मुखै ।निष्पिपेष च वेगेनक्षितावाविध्यवीर्यवान् ।।।।
dvividaś śoṇitākṣaṃ tu vidadāra nakhair mukhaiḥ |
niṣpipēṣa ca vēgēna kṣitāv āvidhya vīryavān ||
Valiant Dvivida tore Śoṇitākṣa across the face with nails and teeth; then, gathering speed, he hurled him to the earth and crushed him.
Valiant Dwivida, for his part, tore Sonitaksha on his face with his nails, and quickening his pace threw him on the surface of the ground and bruised him.
The verse reflects yuddha-dharma—decisive action against violent aggressors in a just war. It underscores that protecting one’s side and ending a threat swiftly can be treated as a duty in battle.
In the battlefield at Laṅkā, the vānara warrior Dvivida overpowers the rākṣasa Śoṇitākṣa by tearing and throwing him down, crushing him on the ground.
