Shloka 6.74.22

औषधिपर्वताहरणम् / The Retrieval of the Herb-Bearing Mountain

तस्मिन्जीवतिवीरेतुहतमप्यहतंबलम् ।हनूमत्युज्झितप्राणेजीवन्तोऽपिवयम् हृता ।।6.74.22।।

tasmin jīvati vīre tu hatam apy ahataṃ balam |

hanūmaty ujjhita-prāṇe jīvanto 'pi vayam hṛtāḥ ||6.74.22||

So long as the heroic Hanumān lives, even if the army is shattered, it is as though it were not truly destroyed; but if Hanumān’s life-breath is gone, then even we who are still alive are as good as dead.

If this hero Hanuman is alive, even if the army is destroyed and if we are alive, it is like dead only.

In the battle at Laṅkā, the vānara forces are shaken; Jāmbavān frames Hanumān’s survival as the decisive factor for hope and continued resistance.

Hanumān’s indispensable courage and reliability, and Jāmbavān’s leadership in restoring hope and resolve.
