Shloka 6.74.15

औषधिपर्वताहरणम् / The Retrieval of the Herb-Bearing Mountain

च्चिदार्यशरैस्तीक्ष्णैर्नप्राणाध्वंसितास्तव ।।6.74.15।।विभीषणवचश्श्रुत्वाजाम्बवानृक्षपुङ्गवः ।कृच्छ्रादभ्युग्दिरन्वाक्यमिदंवचनमब्रवीत् ।।6.74.16।।

svabhāvajarayā yuktaṃ vṛddhaṃ śaraśataiś citam |

prajāpatisutaṃ vīraṃ śāmyantam iva pāvakam ||6.74.14||

dṛṣṭvā tam upasaṅgramya paulastyo vākyam abravīt |

He saw Jāmbavān—aged by the natural course of time, pierced thickly by hundreds of arrows—the heroic son of Prajāpati, like a fire dying down. Seeing him, Paulastya (Vibhīṣaṇa) went up to him and spoke.

"O Noble Jambavan! Indeed, your life has not been afflicted with these sharp arrows." Hearing this, Jambavan uttered these words with difficulty."

Dharma includes honoring and tending elders and leaders, especially when they are weakened—compassion is not suspended in wartime.

Jāmbavān is found grievously wounded; Vibhīṣaṇa comes close to address him.

Vibhīṣaṇa’s respectful attentiveness and Jāmbavān’s heroic endurance despite age and injury.
