As the swift-handed rākṣasa Praghasa, his limbs rent by sharp arrows, seemed as though he would devour the armies, Sugrīva—the lord of the Vānara hosts—split him open and slew him with a saptaparṇa tree.
Sugriva, the Vanara leader, taking hold of Sapataparni tree hit Pratapan who had his mouth open as if to swallow the army and killed him.
Dharma appears as protective leadership: Sugrīva acts to prevent mass harm to his troops by eliminating a rampaging enemy.
Praghasa threatens the Vānara forces; Sugrīva intervenes forcefully and kills him using a tree as a weapon.
Sugrīva’s kingship in action—decisive guardianship of his people in crisis.
