Surely today your pride—born of boons granted by the Self-born (Brahmā)—will be shattered; for the fearful fruition of that sin has now come upon you.

"O night ranger! the time has come for punishment for the sins committed by you to the sages, Devatas, so also to Gandharvas, celestial beauties, Nagas, Yakshas and the kings because of your delusion in conceit. Surely your pride about the boons begotten from the selfborn creator will be gone, said Rama.

boons (vara)

Divine favors do not cancel dharma: boons may empower, but arrogance and wrongdoing still culminate in moral consequence. The verse warns against confusing granted power with moral invulnerability.

Rāma continues his warning to Rāvaṇa, specifically targeting Rāvaṇa’s confidence in Brahmā’s boons and declaring that the ‘ripening’ of sin is now unavoidable.

Rāma’s clarity and moral certainty: he speaks as an agent of righteous order, undeceived by displays of supernatural protection.
