मायाशिरोप्रदर्शनम् (The Display of the Illusory Head of Rāma)
हरयोमथितानागैरथजातैस्तथापरे ।शयितामृदिताश्चाश्वैर्यायुवेगैरिवाम्बुदाः ।।।।
harayo mathitā nāgai rathajātaistathāpare |
śayitā mṛditāścāśvairvāyuvegairivāmbudāḥ ||
Some sleeping monkeys were crushed by elephants and by multitudes of chariots; others were trampled by horses, as clouds are scattered by the force of the wind.
"There, some of the sleeping Vanaras were crushed by elephants, so also, just as by the speed of wind the clouds are crushed the Vanaras are crushed to death."
The verse employs a simile (Upama), comparing the Vanaras being trampled by war horses and elephants to clouds (ambudāḥ) being scattered and crushed by the powerful speed of the wind (vāyuvegaiḥ).
It highlights the brutal physical reality of the battlefield where the Vanara army faces overwhelming force from heavy cavalry (elephants and chariots), illustrating the severe perils encountered in the struggle to uphold Dharma.
