इन्द्रवरदानम् / Indra Grants Boons: Restoration of the Vanara Host
विक्रान्ताश्चापिशूराश्च न मृत्युंगणयन्ति च ।कृतयत्नाविपन्नाश्चजीवयैनान् पुरन्दर ।।।।
vikrāntāś cāpi śūrāś ca na mṛtyuṃ gaṇayanti ca |
kṛtayatnā vipannāś ca jīvayainān purandara ||
They were bold and heroic, and they did not reckon with death. Having exerted themselves to the utmost, they fell in calamity—O Purandara, restore them to life.
"They were valiant and courageous and did not care for life. They did their utmost, died and fell into adversity. Purandara! Get all of them back to life."
Dharma here is gratitude joined with compassion: those who risked everything for a righteous cause should not be abandoned, and a leader must seek their welfare.
After the battle, many allied fighters have fallen; Rāma appeals to Indra (Purandara) to revive them.
Rāma’s compassion and responsibility toward allies—he honors their sacrifice and actively seeks their restoration.
