itihāsa (sacred history)

Dharma is strengthened through remembrance and truthful proclamation of sacred history; recitation is portrayed as a moral-spiritual practice that guards one from disgrace and decline.

At the close of the gods’ praise, a benefit statement is given: those who recite this ancient hymn/narrative gain protection from defeat.

The virtue emphasized is śraddhā expressed as kīrtana—steadfast faith shown through reverent speaking and remembering of the righteous narrative.
