सीतासान्त्वनम् / Hanuman Consoles Sita with the News of Victory
लोकहिंसाविहाराणांरक्षसांकामरूपिणाम् ।।6.116.47।।कुर्वतामपिपापानिनैवकार्यमशोभनम् ।
lokahiṃsā-vihārāṇāṃ rakṣasāṃ kāmarūpiṇām | kurvatām api pāpāni naiva kāryam aśobhanam || 6.116.47 ||
Even if the rākṣasas—who delight in harming the world and can assume forms at will—commit sinful deeds, one must not do what is disgraceful in return.
"Rakshasas by nature are cruel in their deeds and can assume any form according to their will. No sinful actions to be done even if they do sinful actions."
Dharma forbids becoming like the wrongdoer: others’ cruelty is not a license for disgraceful retaliation.
Sītā generalizes her teaching: even against inherently violent rākṣasas, one must keep conduct pure.
Self-mastery—refusing to let anger dictate action.
