अभिज्ञानवृत्तान्त-प्रत्यायनम् (Token of Recognition and the Crow–Brahmāstra Episode)
ममैव दुष्कृतं किञ्चिन्महदस्ति न संशयः।।।।समर्थौ सहितौ यन्मां नावेक्षेते परन्तपौ।
mamaiva duṣkṛtaṃ kiñcin mahad asti na saṃśayaḥ |
samarthau sahitau yan māṃ nāvekṣete parantapau ||
Surely I must have committed some great wrong—there is no doubt—since those two enemy-scorchers, though capable and united, are not coming to look for me.
'Have I done any great sin because of which even though both the scorchers of enemies are capable, they are not doing so?'
The verse highlights the danger of misattributing suffering to personal moral failure; in Dharma-discourse, grief can distort judgment, and one should seek truth rather than self-condemnation.
Sītā, still captive in Laṅkā, fears that Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa have not come for her and interprets the delay as the fruit of her own supposed wrongdoing.
Sītā’s moral seriousness: she measures events through an ethical lens, even when that becomes painful self-scrutiny.
