Shloka 5.58.153

सुन्दरकाण्डे अष्टपञ्चाशः सर्गः — हनुमद्वृत्तान्तकथनम्, सीताभिज्ञान-प्रदानम्, लङ्कादाह-वर्णनम्

ततोऽहं सुमहद्रूपं संक्षिप्य पुनरात्मनः।।।।विमोचयित्वा तं बन्धं प्रकृतिस्थः स्थितः पुनः।आयसं परिघं गृह्य तानि रक्षांस्यसूदयम्।।।।

tato ’haṃ su-mahad-rūpaṃ saṅkṣipya punar ātmanaḥ |

vimocayitvā taṃ bandhaṃ prakṛti-sthaḥ sthitaḥ punaḥ |

āyasaṃ parighaṃ gṛhya tāni rakṣāṃsy asūdayam ||

Then I drew my vast form back into a smaller one, slipped free of that bondage, and again stood in my natural power. Seizing an iron bar, I struck down those rākṣasas.

"I reduced my form and rid of the bondage. Then again I assumed my original huge form and took up an iron bar lying near and killed all the demons (present).

Dharma includes right use of force: Hanuman uses power strategically and proportionately to remove obstacles to Rama’s mission.

Bound and endangered, Hanuman changes size to escape, returns to full strength, and fights back using an iron bar.

Buddhi (discernment) joined with vīrya (heroic energy): he adapts form and method to the situation.
