षट्पञ्चाशः सर्गः — वैदेही-आश्वासनम् तथा अरिष्टारोहणम् (Consoling Sita and Ascending Mount Arishta)
बोध्यमानमिव प्रीत्या दिवाकरकरैश्शुभैः।उन्मिषन्तमिवोद्धूतैर्लोचनैरिव धातुभिः।।।।
bodhyamānam iva prītyā divākarakaraiś śubhaiḥ | unmiṣantam ivoddhūtair locanair iva dhātubhiḥ ||
As though affectionately awakened by the auspicious rays of the sun, the mountain seemed to open its eyes—like minerals revealed as ‘eyes’ when dust is blown away.
As if the mountain was awakened from sleep by the rays of the blessed Sun. With the colour of glowing minerals exuding, it was as if the mountain was looking out with his eyes open. (The minerals underneath the mud appear when wind blows removing the dust covering them. The glowing minerals are fancied to be eyes of the mountain.)
The verse primarily serves kāvya; ethically, it reinforces the epic’s dharmic vision of a meaningful cosmos where light reveals truth—paralleling how clarity (satya) dispels confusion.
