Shloka 5.46.27
षट्चत्वारिंशः सर्गः — Ravana Deploys Five Generals; Hanuman Destroys the Commanders and the Remaining Host
तं विरूपाक्षयूपाक्षौ दृष्ट्वा निपतितं भुवि।।।।सञ्जातरोषौ दुर्धर्षावुत्पेतुररिन्दमौ।
taṃ virūpākṣayūpākṣau dṛṣṭvā nipatitaṃ bhuvi | sañjātarōṣau durdharṣāv utpetur arindamau ||
Seeing Durdhara fallen upon the earth, Virūpākṣa and Yūpākṣa—unyielding and foe-crushing—were inflamed with anger and sprang forward.
Seeing the body of Durdhara fallen on the ground, enraged Virupaksha and Yupaksha, the unassailable crushers of enemies leaped towards him.
The verse warns how grief and rage can rapidly turn into impulsive retaliation. Dharma calls for restraint and discernment (viveka) even amid loss, because anger clouds judgment.
After Durdhara’s fall, two other generals—Virūpākṣa and Yūpākṣa—react with fury and rush to engage Hanumān.
The enemy generals’ martial ferocity is highlighted, setting the stage for Hanumān’s continued courage and composure under assault.
