षट्चत्वारिंशः सर्गः — Ravana Deploys Five Generals; Hanuman Destroys the Commanders and the Remaining Host
ततस्स मथिताष्टाश्वं रथं भग्नाक्षकूबरम्।।।।विहाय न्यपतद्भूमौ दुर्धरस्त्यक्तजीवितः।
tatas sa mathitāṣṭāśvaṃ rathaṃ bhagnākṣakūbaram | vihāya nyapatad bhūmau durdharas tyaktajīvitaḥ ||
Then Durdhara—his chariot shattered, its eight horses slain, and its axle and pole broken—abandoned the wreck and fell lifeless upon the ground.
Having lost his chariot, the horses yoked to it killed, its axle and pole broken to pieces, Durdhara fell down dead from the chariot.
The verse reflects the moral order of consequences in righteous warfare: arrogance and aggression against a dharmic mission meet inevitable downfall. It underscores that adharma in violence ultimately collapses under its own weight.
In the battle at Laṅkā, Durdhara’s chariot is destroyed and his forces neutralized; he falls dead to the ground after losing his chariot and horses.
Hanumān’s unstoppable valor is implied by the total destruction of the enemy’s war-vehicle and force, highlighting heroic steadfastness in service to Rāma’s cause.
